Creating a flow
Where Flows live in the app, the parts of the editor, and your first When → Then.
Flows live under Automations → Flows in the Novon web app (the mobile app opens the same editor in a signed-in browser sheet). New flow opens the full-screen editor.
The editor
- Canvas (centre): your steps and connections. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, use the controls in the corner, or the minimap.
- Steps panel (right on wide screens, a bottom sheet on narrow ones): the searchable catalog of When / And / Then steps. A switch at its top swaps it for the AI builder.
- Header: back, the flow's name and description, the enabled toggle, a hub status chip, Save draft, Publish, and a menu with Cooldown, Tidy layout, Debug mode and more.
- Tabs strip: every flow you have open, like files in an editor.
- Issues strip (over the canvas when needed): validation messages; click one to centre its step.
- Messages (bottom, in debug mode): what the hub is doing while the flow runs.
Your first flow
Name it
Click the name in the header and type something you will recognise in Recent runs and notifications
({{flow.name}} can appear in messages).
Add a When step
Search the Steps panel for Device changes, drag it onto the canvas (or press its + / tap it on touch). Double-click the step, pick a device, and optionally the state it changes to.
Add a Then step and connect them
Add Send notification. Drag from the right-hand handle of the When step and release anywhere
over the notification step; it connects. Configure the message, e.g. {{trigger.name}} is now {{trigger.friendlyState}}.
Save and publish
Save draft stores the work in progress. Publish makes the hub run it. The banner tells you which state the flow is in.
Test it
Press the small run tab on the When step to start the published flow from there, or change the device for real. Open Recent runs from the Flows list to see the run.
Empty-canvas rule of thumb: start with a When step, then connect And conditions and Then actions.
